BERWICK, Maine You never know what might show up at Hackmatack Farm. Most recently it was the last remaining breed of long-haired pig, a breed that nearly disappeared from the face of the Earth in the 1900s.
Before the Mangalitsa pigs showed up earlier this spring at Hackmatack, the farm had chickens and bison. And for nearly five decades, Hackmatack has even hosted thespians, turning the 300-year-old farm into a theater each summer.
But the Mangalitsa pigs may be the most exotic of creatures to enter the family farm, which began in the 1600s as a Guptill family homesteading site.
