A fresh coat of paint is one of the simplest ways to update a room but one thing many people are put off by is the fumes that fill the space as it dries.
From removing mould, to tackling odours, baking soda is raved about for a whole host of cleaning tasks. However, when speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, one expert has urged households to avoid using this natural product for six particular cleaning jobs.
Antoaneta has revealed that you can clean your sink with baking soda and lemon juice.
She explained: “Pour a bit of baking soda into a suitable dish and gradually start adding lemon juice.
You are looking for a thick, paste-like texture.
“Strap on your gloves, grab a clean cloth and get scrubbing this mixture into the sink.
“The combination of citric acid found in the lemon juice, along with the natural abrasiveness of baking soda, will leave your sink fresh and spotless.”
You might like to follow up with a strong disinfectant to get rid of all the germs that were missed and then wash it down the plughole.
Oak, walnut, cherry and mahogany are examples of woods that have higher tannin levels, so the staining potential is much higher.
If you have a wood floor with a high tannin content, you should avoid cleaning with baking soda in that room at all costs.
If you must clean with baking soda in that room, make sure you don’t spill any baking soda on the floor.
The chemical reaction is irreversible, so if you ve already made the mistake you may need to look into sanding down the wood.
Alternatively, Lauren suggests making up a bicarb solution to do some cool wood staining effects on the rest of the wood to make it look intentional.
