Blair Oaks coach Sharon Buschjost was feeling lonely in the third-base coach’s box for the first four innings Tuesday night. Then, in the fifth and sixth innings, nearly every batter stopped by third base to keep her company.

WARDSVILLE — The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons are making it a habit to finish their softball seasons with an appearance in the Final Four. Last year was no exception, but capping 2021 with the program’s second state championship had a nice ring to it.

Luke Northweather broke the Blair Oaks boys basketball single-game scoring record Tuesday against Eldon. Mallorie Fick nearly broke the girls basketball single-game scoring record two days later against the Lady Mustangs. The Blair Oaks senior guard scored a career-high 38 points Thursday, rallying the Lady Falcons from an eight-point deficit to win 61-54 against Eldon in Tri-County Conference play.

The Blair Oaks Lady Falcons scored 28 points in the first quarter Thursday, an impressive offensive performance. But keeping up that pace for the next 24 minutes is practically impossible. The Boonville Lady Pirates held Blair Oaks to just 16 points in the second and third quarters combined, rallying for a 70-67 win in Tri-County Conference play.
