The sponsors of a ballot measure that would specifically protect access to abortion in the state constitution have filed an objection to Attorney General Austin Knudsen’s proposed ballot statement.
The group behind a proposed constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion access in the Montana Constitution filed an emergency petition with the state Supreme Court on Tuesday morning asking it to overturn the attorney general’s newly rewritten ballot statement for the proposal.
the ballot measure would add language to the state constitution, establishing “a right to make and carry out decisions about one’s own pregnancy, including the right to abortion.”
The language Knudsen submitted to Jacobsen s office Monday inserted several definitions for the initiative and included several of his office s objections to the measure.
