Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina will be holding a virtual summit on Thursday and have comprehensive discussions on the entire spectrum of the bilateral relationship, including further strengthening cooperation in the post COVID era. The summit is being held a day after Vijay Divas, which marks India s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. India and Bangladesh have continued to maintain regular exchanges at the highest level with Bangladesh Prime Minister paying an official visit to India in October 2019. PM Modi had delivered a video message on the historic occasion of Mujib Borsho in March 2020. Both leaders have remained in regular touch during the COVID pandemic.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday suggested further integrating the economies of Bangladesh and India to consolidate the global and regional value chains cashing on the available synergies. I believe both our countries can move up the global and regional value chains by further integrating our economies taking advantage of available synergies, she told her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in an India-Bangladesh virtual summit.
Describing the ongoing connectivity initiatives between the two next-door neighbours as catalysts in this regard, Hasina said a prime example was the resumption of Chilahati-Haldibari rail link which was inaugurated yesterday.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, on Thursday held a virtual bilateral summit and reviewed ties.
Speaking at the summit, PM Modi described Bangladesh as a significant pillar of India’s Neighbourhood First policy. The PM noted that his government has strived to improve relations with Bangladesh.
“To strengthen relations with Bangladesh has been a priority for me since the first day,” Modi said.
“This year has been full of challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During this time, there has been good cooperation between our countries in the sphere of working with health professions, COVID-19 vaccine etc,” he noted.
