Talking to The Point Newspaper, Ousman Sillah, National Assembly Member for Banjul North Constituency where the flooding occurred, said multiple factors were responsible for the inundation among which was an increase of the water level in the canal and nearby swamps or ‘Tanbi Wetland’.
Over 200 families were affected by last week’s torrential rains – being the heaviest in decades. The victims from Banjul North are now being sheltered at St Augustine’s Senior Secondary School.
The gesture valued at D72, 000 was distributed to both the Muslim and Christian communities in Crab Island Ward. Beneficiary streets included Hardington Street, London Corner, Box Bar, James Island, Thomo’s Street, Wesley and Police Barracks.
