Moorhead and Barnesville city officials are pleased that instead of facing a cut in state funding, most Minnesota cities will receive a financial boost from the Legislature.
The Minnesota Legislature wrapped up its 2008 session Sunday after legislators promised a $42 million increase in local government aid. Gov. Tim Pawlenty is expected to sign the bill into law.
State funding to city governments increased across the board, including for most cities in Clay County and outlying county seats. County aid was increased by $22 million, with the theory that more state aid will help keep local property taxes low.
