Westminster recalled early for MPs to give eight-hour tribute to Prince Philip

By Gregor Young The House of Commons will sit for a special eight and a half hour session to pay tribute to Prince Philip MEMBERS of Parliament in Westminster will today pay tribute to the late Prince Philip, beginning with a statement from the Prime Minister at 2.30pm. After Boris Johnson speaks, there will be around eight hours of further contributions from other MPs, with the House of Commons due to close at 11pm, according to the event calendar on its website. The House of Lords will also meet to pay tribute to the former Duke of Edinburgh “and agree a Humble Address of condolence to Her Majesty The Queen”.

Green peer calls for ALL MEN to face 6pm CURFEW in wake of Sarah Everard murder

Men should be banned from being outdoors after 6pm to make women a lot safer after the abduction and suspected murder of Sarah Everard in London, a Green Party peer has suggested. Baroness Jones made the comment in a discussion in the House of Lords during a debate on domestic violence. The issue of women s safety has been again thrust into the spotlight following the disappearance of 33-year-old Ms Everard as she walked home to Brixton from her friend s home in Clapham, south-west London, on March 3. The strength of feeling saw dozens of women shared their own harrowing stories online with the hashtags #saraheverard and #TooManyMen.

It comes just 10 months after the Tory leader scrapped the role of Brexit Secretary having deemed the position surplus to requirements. Frost was initially appointed as a special adviser by Downing Street on a £125,000 salary. He was awarded a peerage last summer.

A senior Tory MP today appeared to take a veiled swipe at the female ministers in Cabinet by raising questions about the  calibre of women in top jobs. Caroline Nokes, who chairs the Commons Women and Equalities Committee, also railed against the blokey mentality pervading Boris Johnson s Cabinet. Of the 26 Cabinet attendees, only six are women - Priti Patel, Therese Coffey, Liz Truss, Baroness Evans, Amanda Milling and Suella Braverman. And they have taken a back seat to their male colleagues throughout the pandemic, according to Ms Nokes, a former immigration minister in Theresa May s Cabinet.
