New England is bracing for flash floods and tornados as Hurricane Lee continues to grow strong, as forecasters predict large, dangerous cyclone storms, with over 10 inches of rainfall.
Latest projections appear to show that the growing Hurricane Lee is bearing down on Maine and could impact the New England-area in the very early hours of Sunday.
Gov. Maura Healey declared a state of emergency in Massachusetts on Tuesday evening due to the catastrophic flash flooding and property damage caused by Monday's powerful rainstorm in Worcester and Bristol counties. Upwards of 10 inches of rain fell in both counties, causing widespread flooding, downed trees, power outages and damage to homes, businesses, and infrastructure, including bridges, dams and train tracks.
National Weather Service meteorologists have extended a flash flood emergency into Tuesday morning for the city of Leominster and surrounding Massachusetts communities amid what they describe as life-threatening flash flooding.
