The James Beard Awards took place in Chicago on Monday, with Hyde Park chef Erick Williams taking home the sole local win of the night.

The five nominees lost in three categories, including Best Chef: Northeast, Best New Restaurant and Outstanding Baker.

Considered to be the Oscars of the culinary industry, the coveted awards each year honor the nation’s best chefs, restaurants, restaurateurs, mixologists, bakers, cookbook authors, food writers and more.

This year’s ceremony, held at Chicago’s Lyric Opera and streamed online, was the first since the pandemic.

A Tucson chef has won a James Beard Foundation 2022 Restaurant and Chef Award.
