A WOMAN who gave up her past Christmases to work at the local community kitchen has been praised for her kindness. Margaret (Mags) McSweeney, 69, from Roose Road, Barrow gave up her Christmas in 2018 to serve and cook meals at her nearby centre. Mags walked down to the kitchen at Christmas to offer her time, only to find that the cook for the day had suffered an accident so was unable to provide any meals. She took over the role and covered the meals for day. Since then, she has spent much of her free time at the Community Kitchen which provides meals and hampers for families and residents.
