Alex Murdaugh wept during the opening statements of his double-murder trial Wednesday as the prosecutor said a family weapon was used to kill his wife.

The disgraced South Carolina attorney, 54, is set to appear in court today, where a jury will be selected for his three-week-long trial.

The Murdaugh family, for years one of the most prominent familys in South Carolinas Lowcountry, are under the spotlight over their links to a series of mysterious deaths.

A three-part documentary series airing on Netflix February 22 will delve into scandals and murders that plagued the Murdaugh family, including the death of Mallory Beach, 19, and Paul and Maggies deaths.

Mallory Beach, 19, was thrown from the boat when it crashed into Archers Creek Bridge, in Beaufort South Carolina, in 2019. It is believed murder victim Paul Murdaugh was drunk at the helm.

Legal lines are being drawn and rules of engagement are being set in pretrial motions and court orders as Alex Murdaughs double murder trial nears.
