The Union County Public Library System Board voted last month to cut the operating hours at most of the systems five branches.

PHOTOS: Friends of Barton Library book sale ongoing
The Friends of Barton Library spring book sale kicked off on Monday with a members-only sale. Starting today, the sale is open to the public and will be ongoing each weekday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. outside Barton Library. The sale will also be open from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Books are $1, paperbacks are 50 cents and magazines are 10 cents and on Saturday, visitors can fill a box with books for $5.

The Murphy Arts District is hosting a read-a-long for area children each week day of Spring Break at the Playscape, 301 S. Hill Ave. Former El Dorado Mayor Veronica Smith-Creer kicked off the series on Monday with a reading of her book "My Mimi is the Mayor." Smith-Creer followed up the reading with a short discussion of the book.
