The media cite April figures for auto insurance prices as the latest sign of "inflationary pressure" - threatening the economy and the markets, and calling Fed policy into question. But viewed correctly, the price of auto insurance is actually trending down, and deflationary dynamics are at work.

Technical quirks are skewing the inflation metrics, all in the upwards direction. Taken into account, there is no evidence yet of an inflation apocalypse, despite the panic in the media.
