April 13, 2021 Just two months ago, Fernando Tatis Jr.signed a mammoth contract that will keep him in San Diego through 2034. He entered the 2021 season as arguably the most hyped player in the majors. We all breathed a collective sigh of relief when, after exiting a spring training game with shoulder discomfort, Tatis was cleared to resume play just a day later. Sadly, though, one of the game’s biggest stars was sidelined last week with a partial shoulder dislocation after taking a hearty sw...

April 13, 2021 Baseball is happening! I decided for the entire season to run a weekly article on pitchers who have been “heating up.” I will dive into what it could mean for the pitcher and what you should do with them. This should be a captivating concept because it will be pitchers of all levels, anywhere from aces to pitchers you would have never drafted. That’s what it’s all about, catching players as they improve and acting on it before anyone else can realize. Welcome to “Throwi...

April 13, 2021 OurMLB DFS lineups don’t start and end with pitching. I’m not saying to punt pitcher every night or even every now and then. I’m just stressing that each and every slate does not rest upon our pitching. But the pitcher position is so vital because it’s the slot where we can get the most accurate projection in an extremely volatile wing of DFS. Our pitching isn’t just a source of fantasy points. The price tags on pitchers make it so they shape they dictate the freedoms a...

France’s big spring training meant he was no longer a sleeper, as his draft price surged, which increased the output he needed to produce in order to break even for his new owners. So far, it’s been a weird start to his year, as he’s striking out more than ever before, but making the most of his balls in play with a ton of line drives and no pop-ups. Personally, I was quite ticked he went off in Spring to raise his price, as I was a fan heading into the year after his 2019 Triple-A power ...

April 12, 2021 This week’s docket has several marquee matchups, but we respect your intelligence enough not to explain why Shane Bieber vs. Lucas Giolito or Yu Darvish vs. Dustin May is worth watching. Instead, turn your attention to three games where the visiting pitcher will return to their old stomping grounds, and don’t gloss over Tuesday night’s game in Atlanta either. Joe Musgrove is baseball’s hottest pitcher at the moment, and after becoming the first Padres pitcher to throw no-...

In some ways, this list makes a ton of sense. We’re using to seeing Trout and Harper at or near the top of the walk rate leaders list. In other ways, this list is WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?! Over 14 seasons, Cabrera has only posted a double digit walk rate twice. seeing his name second in the current walk rate rankings is just bizarre. Meanwhile, Gurriel has never posted a walk rate higher than 6%! He’s swinging at pitches outside the zone significantly less often than ever before. This is a great sig...

April 12, 2021 After pitching his way back from the outskirts of oblivion last year, Trevor Rosenthal fared relatively well via free agency, landing a one-year, $11 million deal from the A’s. Unfortunately, he has yet to take the mound for the team, and now it appears that it could be awhile before he does, even in a best-case scenario. On Thursday, Rosenthal underwent surgery to alleviate thoracic outlet syndrome, a loss that hardly helps an A’s pitching staff that’s off to a rough start...

April 12, 2021 To begin, I want you to take a look at this screenshot from Saturday’s game between the Mets and Marlins at Citi Field. What do you think happened? What might have been the outcome? First things first: That’s Jacob deGrom on the mound. He’s the best pitcher on Earth, as well as other inhabited worlds we have yet to discover. And as expected, he’s been mowing down the Marlins. In the first inning, he dismantled Corey Dickerson on four fastballs that went 99.9, 99.8, 100.4,...
