The national flag and other flags at the Presidential Villa in Abuja are currently flying at half-mast in line with a directive issued by President Muhammadu Buhari.
This in honour of the late Chief of Army Staff Ahmed Attahiru and other military officers, who died in a plane crash on Friday.
President Buhari on Sunday directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast in all public buildings, facilities, and official residences across the country.
The directive was announced by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who revealed that the gesture would last for three days.

President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja, the nation’s capital to attend the African Finance Summit in Paris, France.
The summit will focus on reviewing the African economy, following shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic, and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries, said Bashir Ahmad, who is an aide to the President.
Ahmad, the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, announced the Nigerian leader’s departure from the country in a tweet on Sunday.

In an update, the Spokesperson confirmed that the police are already working to apprehend a suspected burglar.
UPDATE: The police, in a related development is searching for a suspected burglar who, as captured by CCTV, unsuccessfully attempted to break into the house of Maikano Abdullahi on Thursday, last week. Maikano lives on the same street with the Chief of Staff, close to the Villa.

President Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu stated that the President plans to celebrate eid which marks the end of fasting in his house and does not want to receive visitors.

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived the country via the Nnamdi Azikiwe international airport from the United Kingdom where he went on medical vacation for two weeks.
“President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Abuja this afternoon, after a private trip to London, the United Kingdom,” the Personal Assistant to the President, Bashir Ahmad tweeted.
He posted images of the president greeted by military officers as he descended from his plane.

Before his departure, the presidency had explained that Buhari’s travel to the UK was not on an emergency case and that the Nigerian leader was not sick, dousing insinuations from critics who raised the alarm that the 78-year-old was not feeling well.
