JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, Mar 17: People’s Democratic Party today suffered major jolt after veteran PDP leader and former J&K Deputy Chief Minister, Muzaffar Hussain Beigh joined the People’s Conference, a party from where he had started his political career, while a strong party leader from Jammu and general secretary, Surinder Choudhary resigned from the post he was holding.
The rej-oining of People’s Conference by Beigh, who had played a key role in formation of this party in late seventies, is considered as his ‘home coming’. His joining has come as a big boost for PC , as it expected to strengthen the party in Kashmir valley, especially in Baramulla district.
SRINAGAR: J&K Peoples Conference Chairman Sajad Gani Lone on Monday convened a meeting of the senior leadership and newly elected DDC members of the party for the first time after the recently concluded DDC elections. He congratulated the elected members and stressed upon them the need to uphold the mandate of the people.

Asserting that this step marks a new chapter in grassroots democracy, Sajad said the newly elected DDC members should be aware of the expectations of the people.
“People have been away from political governance for more than two years. The DDC members are the first democratically elected and politically empowered representative of the people and they should go back to people with promises of deliverance. I expect them to deliver for the people of J&K in a fair, transparent and effective manner,” he added.

JAMMU, Dec 23: The illegal occupation of Government accommodation in twin capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory by the former Ministers, legislators and other persons is a huge drain on the exchequer every month. Moreover, an amount of Rs 1.12 crore is due from them as water and electricity charges and rent while as whopping Rs 78 lakh has been spent on the maintenance of Bungalows and quarters being retained unauthorizedly by them.

SRINAGAR, Dec 16: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Wednesday granted bail to Mohammad Shafi Dar, Ex-Chairman of J&K State Co-operative Bank Ltd., in the Rs. 300 crore-J&K State Co-operative Bank land scam.
Dar was represented by Advocate Faizan Nazir and Bashir Ahmed Dar Sr. AAG appeared on behalf of the Union Territory of J&K.
A single-judge bench comprising Justice Sindhu Sharma noted the fact that the money taken from the bank was paid to the owners of land, who executed a power of attorney in favour of the Chairman of the Jhelum Co-operative Society.
