Assault on Navy officer: High Court denies bail to Irfan Selim

The High Court on Wednesday refused bail to Irfan Selim, son of Awami League leader Haji Selim, in a case filed over assaulting a Navy officer in October last year.
The bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Badruzzaman passed the order.
The court also issued a rule asking why Irfan, also former ward councillor of Dhaka South City Corporation, should not get bail. The state has been asked to respond to the rule within two weeks.
Advocate Sayed Ahmed Raza stood for the accused while Deputy Attorney general Dr Md Bashir Ullah represented the state.

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today stayed for eight weeks a High Court verdict that acquitted three convicted accused who were sentenced to death by the trial court concerned in a case filed for abducting and killing a six-year-old in Cox s Bazar in 2013.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the stay order following a petition filed by the state seeking stay on the HC judgment.
Deputy Attorney General Dr Md Bashir Ullah told The Daily Star that the three convicts of Md Hridoy abduction and murder case will have to remain in condemned cell following the apex court s stay order.

The High Court today directed police to take legal action against an informant of a false murder case filed in Patuakhali.
The HC ordered Patuakhali Police Station to file a criminal case against Md Jalil Duari, the informant of the case filed on charge of killing his daughter Sathi Akhter, under Section 211 of the Penal Code of Bangladesh.
The HC bench of Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim and Justice Md Badruzzaman came up with the order during hearing a petition filed by Md Kawsar Gazi, the main accused of the murder case, seeking bail.
