Wildlife campaigners launched a petition to urge the government to designate Lake Windermere, the River Rothay and the Brathay as sites of bathing, with higher water quality levels.

The proposal, set out by industry body Water UK, would see safer inland bathing areas created, meeting higher water quality standards.
