Bethalto Police believe they have the suspect in a series of car wash thefts. Incidents in which coin op machines were broken into or attempted to be broken into dating back to an incident in February at the Baywash Car Wash are alleged to have been committed by 43-year-old Troy R. Webber – a homeless man from the St. Louis region.
Webber was stopped in Granite City on Wednesday driving a Budget Rental truck that had been reported stolen by the company. Inside, police allegedly found evidence linking him to a theft a couple of days earlier at the Bethalto Wash N Go, and a firearm with its serial number removed. Webber is charged with Theft Over $500.00, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of a Firearm with a Removed Serial Number, and Offenses Relating to Motor Vehicles. He is being held in the Madison County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
