Lisa Gilbert (point): Biden's opportunity for greatness — Fixing our democracy and investing in the people | Voices

WASHINGTON — It’s not too early to think about legacy, and Joe Biden is doing so. The Biden administration took office faced with some of the biggest challenges a new president has ever had to grapple with — from the massive economic downturn, to the out-of-control coronavirus, to the climate crisis, to a nationwide racial justice reckoning, to a large swath of Americans believing Donald Trump’s Big Lie and questioning whether Biden won the election, which has sparked a cris...

Confer: The government might try to hide inflation

They will all tell you that prices are through the roof on everything. Everything. Inflation is totally out of control. Consumers began to feel that earlier this year. The life of Prince Philip was nobility squared

This editorial was written by the Editorial Board of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died, after a long and fruitful life extraordinarily well lived. He was 99, two months from his 100th birthday. He leaves his queen, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, age 94, to soldier on alone. The death of a prince, who truly was princely in character, leaves the world a little darker and a lot less noble. His life cheered and inspired with the character, ...

Editorial — Don't let it slip: Sales tax revenue continued growth in our region last year | Editorials

Given the economic downturn resulting from the novel coronavirus pandemic, the trend for many counties last year was a loss of sales taxes. State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli released a report Feb. 2 showing how the health care crisis affected different areas. It showed that 27 of the 57 counties outside New York City had less sales tax revenue in 2020 than they did in 2019. “This report shows how deeply the [coronavirus] pandemic cut into municipal finances,” DiNapoli said in a new...
