do you know how many times we hear this, be a man, man up. you say this is the worst thing you can say to a boy. it is the worst thing you can say to a boy. we re feeding our boys this really unhealthy, limiting narrative that sends them so many conflicting messages that ultimately forces them to repress their emotional selves, their authentic selves, and conform to this hypermasculine form, and it s not only harming our boys, but it s harming all of us. why do you believe that? i mean, we talk so much about the media and image for girls, how it affects girls when they see a barbie doll or what we refer to as a more real looking woman or girl, but we don t talk a lot about the boy image, maybe because they don t dominate the fronts of magazine covers with glamour, but they have these masculine heros on male magazines with sports and other things like that. right. so, you know, it s interesting.
a police officer is in trouble after laying down the law on a school bus filled with students. this is how the officer respo respopd responded you think it is funny hiding your face? look at me like a man. you want to grow up and be a man, look at me like a man. she expects more out of you. another officer was cursing outside of the bus. there was a lot of cursing going on. both suspended without pay for two days and order to perform community service and verbal communication training. and you have no problem with this because you are from ohio
dave said, this is toxic masculinity. this could be in the fifth grade or nfl. it s the same type of masculinity that s very narrow in its form, very violent in my ways, it s abusive in many ways. but it s not just what s happening in the locker room. you have to look at the toxic masculinity in the collective voices of the nfl. i m not talking about the league office here in new york, but all the announcers, all the former coaches and players who are all saying that jonathan martin should take this like a man. stand up and be a man, punch him back, like we talked about earlier. all this kind of bravado and tough-guy masculinity. which, by the way, if you take that same logic, someone that feels abused or feels like they ve been bullied is justified. take it like a man, stand up and be like a man. take it into your own hands. and so this bravado that you re hearing is not just in the dolphin s locker room, it s throughout, as dave talked about, this culture of masculinity that so many
political rally and barbecue this weekend in kentucky. the people of kentucky have had enough of the amnesty. they ve had enough of the bailouts. they ve had enough of wall street banks being build a out while small kentucky businesses and pharmacy got nothing. they d had enough. the other thing matt bevins had enough of, mitch mcconnell, and he is using all of the tea party s anti-washington, anti-health care talking points to show it. we hear a lot of empty rhetoric from mitch mcconnell about ending obama care. obama care is unpopular. stop talking about yanking it out root and branch and start voting in the u.s. senate to kill it by defunding it. stand with senator mike lee. be a man, stand up, and put your money where your mouth is. be a man? woo! i know it was a barbecue. but things are getting messy in
