Grantham care home to close COVID unit as transmission rates drop It will close at the end of the month A care home in Grantham will close its designated COVID-19 unit as infection rates continue to drop. Apple Trees Care Home, run by The Orders of St John Care Trust, set up the unit last year as part of an initiative led by the Department of Health and Social Care. The 16-bed unit has cared for more than 80 people since it opened in October to people with coronavirus who were leaving hospital. Due to the dropping rates of COVID-19 infection, and the continuing development of the vaccination programme among over 65s, the unit will close on April 30, and revert to a short stay and reablement service.

Charity van torched in spate of Gainsborough arson attacks A heartbreaking incident for the charity A van belonging to the Bearded Fishermen charity in Gainsborough went up in flames and was destroyed. A van used by a mental health charity in Gainsborough was destroyed this week and was among various reports of suspected arson in the town and nearby areas. Bearded Fisherman was set up by Michael Leyland and Rick Roberts in 2019 to provide mental health and suicide prevention awareness and support. The charity has grown and now has around 30 staff. Mick told The Lincolnite that at around 9.20pm on Tuesday, April 20 one of their vans was seen going up in flames and Lincolnshire Police and Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue were called.
