THE essence of freedom of expression is that we should respect free speech rights, without prejudice to any aggrieved party to seek remedy from the courts and file the appropriate legal action. The 1987 Constitution has declared this fundamental in Section 4 of the Bill of Rights when it stated, No law shall be passed abridging the freedom of speech, of expression, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and petition the government for redress of grievances.
