The Begusarai Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar, earlier comprising parts of erstwhile Balia parliamentary seat, was once a stronghold of the Congress and the Communist Party of India.
Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Giriraj Singh, seeking re-election from Begusarai Lok Sabha seat as the NDA nominee, has declared movable and immovable assets totaling Rs 10.16 crore, according to his affidavit filed with the Returning Officer. His wife possesses assets worth Rs 4.15 crore. Singh filed his nomination papers on Friday, stating his movable assets at Rs 2.09 crore and immovable assets at Rs 8.07 crore.

JD(U) spokesperson Ajay Alok added to the speculation about Kanhaiya Kumar moving close to the JD(U) by saying that the CPI leader would be welcome into the party.
Alok, however, added a caveat: that Kumar would be welcome âonly if he gives up his
