New Delhi, May 4 : Former Governor of Meghalaya and Tripura and senior West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tathagata Roy on Tuesday trained guns at party National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and state unit Chief Dilip Ghosh for giving tickets to film and TV actors who never had anything to do with politics.
In a series of tweets, Roy questioned Vijayvargiya and Ghosh what great qualities these women possessed for which they were given tickets. Film and TV actors who never had anything to do with politics, let alone BJP, were handed tickets by BJP s election management team Parno Mitra (Baranagar), Srabanti Chatterjee (Behala West), Payel Sarkar (Behala East), Roy tweeted.

Veteran BJP leader Tathagata Roy, known for his controversial comments, triggered fresh row Tuesday for his tweet that some actor-turned-BJP candidates who never had anything to do with politics were fielded by the party only to concede electoral defeat in the West Bengal assembly poll.
He called three new political entrants from the tinsel world in BJP who were defeated by big margins as politically stupid .
Mr Roy tweeted that a BJP ticket to contest an election involves lots of expense to run the poll campaign. Former Meghalaya Governor and one of senior most leaders of the BJP in West Bengal Tathagata Roy on Tuesday targeted the party leadership through a series of social media posts over the party’s poll debacle. He raised questions over the choice of actors as candidates and accused party leaders of not standing by supporters when they are under attack.

Kolkata, May 2 : In a star-studded Assembly election battle in West Bengal, in which both the ruling Trinamool Congress and the principal opponent BJP fielded more than a dozen actors and actresses as candidates, the trends seem to show that while the Trinamool has successfully reaped the advantage of stardom, the saffron party has failed to capitalise on the glamour quotient.
Tollygunge was considered by many as one of the toughest seats for the Trinamool, where the BJP fielded singer-turned-politician MP Babul Supriyo against seasoned campaigner Arup Biswas.

KOLKATA: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday issued a notice to Bengal education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee in connection with its probe into Ponzi firm iCore. He has been asked to appear before the agency by next week.
Chatterjee, who was summoned last month by CBI which is also probing this case sought time due to the ongoing election. Last week, he was in the poll fray from Behala West constituency.
Chatterjee had allegedly attended a programme organised by iCore Group in August 2011 and shared the dais with TMC legislator Manas Bhuniya. The investigators, who are looking into the money laundering aspect of Ponzi firms, are trying to find the reason behind the two ministers’ presence at the iCoresponsored programme.
