Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the Michigan Achievement Scholarship at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield. The bill increases amounts students can receive for post high school education.

Lawmakers are working on a bill package that would refine a program aimed at helping people aged 25 and older get college degrees and professional certificates.

Republican legislative leaders and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer reached a $1 billion spending bill, with most of it going to the SOAR fund, formed to attract large-scale developments to Michigan. The deal is not without critics.   

Lawmakers pushed 145 grants totaling $681 million in late June. Months later, details are only known about 19 of them.
