Clashes between two groups were reported during two Ram Navami processions in Hooghly district’s Rishra on Sunday. The clashes came two days after similar violence was reported in Shibpur and Kazipara areas of Howrah on Thursday and Friday.

A senior officer of the Chandannagore Police Commissionerate said around 12 people were arrested in connection with the clashes that broke out between two groups during a Ram Navami procession on Sunday evening.
Most of the cases filed against the 36 invoke IPC sections related to unlawful assembly, rioting, promoting enmity between two groups, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation and conspiracy and under various sections of The Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
