Zoning permits have been filed for the construction of an eight-story apartment building located at 2660 and 2680 Bancroft Way in Berkeley’s Southside neighborhood.

On April 16, eligible voters in Berkeley’s District 7 will be able to cast their vote to elect a new District 7 City Council member in the upcoming special election.

The California State Senate approved SB-56 on Jan. 22, which will allow the UC Board of Regents to transfer ownership of Rochdale Apartments to the Berkeley Student Cooperative.

The project will transform the bustling corridor from Dwight Way to the foot of UC Berkeley’s campus at Sather Gate into a green, transit-oriented community for scores of pedestrians, bicycles, buses and cars.

As members of the External Affairs Vice President’s office (EAVP) of the Associated Student of the University of California (ASUC) at UC Berkeley, we stand united in supporting the Southside Zoning Modification Project. We urge the City Council to adopt Item 13 as presented, as it is a critical step toward building a brighter future for UC Berkeley and the Southside community.
