Transmissibility, were now seeing clearer evidence, we have about two weeks of data now, that show that its doubling time is faster than what we saw with the delta variant or the beta variant. so theres now stronger evidence that its more highly transmissible. its not definitive, but certainly a strong indication. and certainly from the clinical standpoint, the national database of admissions is now confirming that were now seeing new data emerging that confirms what we initially saw, that the c...

Suggest it could have a major impact on the course of the pandemic. exactly what that impact will be is still difficult to know. we are now starting to see a consistent picture of rapid increase in transmission, although for now the exact rate of increase relative to other variants remains difficult to quantify. in comparison to the beta variant, omicron is a much stronger

>> something that spreads fast, not a mutation -- another mutation may come. of 19 shocking the pfizer ceo doesnt want to put the end, jointly is the school of medicine professor and epidemiologist. what do you make of this? yes, it is a week variant but no, we dont want it to spread. >> of the week variant and wrong about it being more transmissible, less transmissible, the fact is the transmissibility indexes been studied by a smart professor who calculated its transmissibility is comparable t...

Original beta string, the current delta strain and the original wuhan strain and all of the vaccines gave a very broad protection, broad responses in the tโcells to the different variants of the spike protein so our memory response seems to be more robust and not impacted so much by individual changes to the spike protein. so we would be hopeful that all the current vaccines will actually protect against hospitalisation and death. right. from which variant? from any ofthe right. from which var...

Vaccine for sure but some of the others have actually held up well. we have the beta variant, good efficacy against that gamma variant and delta variant we all lived through this summer. there is some hope if we get through the omicron variant, we see good efficacy in the coming weeks and months that actually the original vaccines that weve all been benefitting from may hold up well and might be all we need in the long run. well just need data to tell us. >> i really appreciate your time. thank ...

Mutations it has, but a lot of this is just we dont have data yet, so the concern is more anticipatory. we just dont know what to think about this new variant. but if you look at the history of the vaccines and the moderna vaccine for sure but some of the others have actually held up well. we have the beta variant, good efficacy against that gamma variant and delta variant we all lived through this summer. there is some hope if we get through the omicron variant, we see good efficacy in the comi...

Disagree with the following. these are the comments this morning on cnbc by former fda commissioner scott gottlieb, who, full disclosure, is a member of the board of pfizer. >> there is a presumption that the growth in cases in south africa is comprised of this omicron variant. the reality is they were having a mini delta surge before this emerge the. we dont know whether or not the increased number of cases that they are seeing is this new variant. think of all the variants that have emerged an...

Have been unvaccinated and at least among the young people that they have seen contract this variant of the disease, that they had mild symptoms. it is early. israel is talking about similar data. is this a hopeful sign that omicron may be less threatening than some of the worst predictions early on? >> i think so, jim. i think a hospitalization pattern in south africa or particularly the province that is mostly affected doesnt suggest anything different about this variant, compared to the prior...
