Bethany Skinner, 22, died in hospital after suffering brain damage from a lack of oxygen on February 26, 2019, Crawley Coroner s Court heard. 3 Bethany suffered unsurvivable brain damage after drowning during a night out in Bognor Regis, a court heard She had been pulled under the water by a strong tide in Bognor Regis, West Sussex two days before. The Plymouth Uni art graduate, from Somerset, was due to move to China to teach English but was working at Butlin s to pay off her student debt.

Bethany Skinner, 22, who could not swim and was petrified of water , entered the sea during the argument and was dragged out by the tide. Her boyfriend, former lifeguard Philip Errickson desperately tried to save her from the fierce waves but she was swept under the pier.  Speaking at the inquest in Crawley, he said:  We were arguing. It wasn t until she was seemingly in trouble that I went in.

A talented artist was dragged into the sea by a huge wave as she begged her boyfriend to save her after she waded into the water during a row, an inquest heard. Bethany Skinner, 22, and her boyfriend Philip Erickson had been kicked out of the Sheiks nightclub in Bognor Regis following a furious argument on February 24, 2019. The couple had walked along the promenade before Miss Skinner, who could not swim, marched across the beach to the water s edge and waded into the sea. Mr Erickson, a former lifeguard, followed her as she shouted at him to leave her alone, but she was hit by a large wave and swept down into the water.
