The Karnataka Government ordered a revision of the content of Kannada and Social Science textbooks for Classes VI to X on Saturday, with 18 major revisions, including 15 lesson replacements. Before the elections, Congress promised to reverse some of the changes made in textbooks during the previous BJP rule if elected.
The lesson on RSS founder Hedgewar titled 'Nijavada Adarsha Purusha Yaragabeku,' in the Class 10 Kannada textbook has been replaced by 'Sukumara Swamiya Kathe' authored by Shivakotyacharya.
Defending the dropping of Nehru’s lesson, the BJP had stated that it was more important to learn about how to be an ideal man in the society (referring to Hedgewar’s lesson) than learning what Nehru wrote to Indira Gandhi.
