Huntsville opens new downtown gateway park and ‘Travelers’ sculpture trail

With saxophonist Alex Banks behind him ready to celebrate with music, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle dedicates the city s new Community Foundation Park in front of Redstone Federal Credit Union. The sculpture Travelers behind Battle is one of three new sculptures for the city center and designed and installed by David Dahquist and Matt Niebuhr.

Huntsville opened a new downtown gateway park today on Dr. Joseph E. Lowry Boulevard, the road it plans to make a new main entrance to downtown. The park’s centerpiece is a large vertical sculpture named “Travelers,” one of three “travelers” sculptures planned along the boulevard commemorating the city’s space history and industry.
