Freedom Caucus members began a filibuster at 10 a.m. Tuesday and show no signs of compromising.

The 41-hour filibuster ended at around 3:30 a.m. after senators with the Freedom Caucus delayed discussion over issues like initiative petition reform and renewing the Federal Reimbursement Allowance.

This is an edited transcript of a floor speech Tuesday by Sen. Bill Eigel, R-Weldon Spring.

The filibuster came as leadership attempted to bring up budget-related bills that must be passed by May 10.

The group of Republicans held the floor into Tuesday evening and over night, stalling a vote on the tax to force action on unrelated legislation.

A chorus of Missouri health care groups and the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the senators were “endangering the well-being of millions of Missourians.”
