After shipping out Max Scherzer on Friday, the Mets have a deal in place to send Justin Verlander back to the Astros on Tuesday, The Post's Jon Heyman confirmed.

The GM, according to Scherzer, said the Mets were open to trading players who would become free agents after 2024.

It is clear the Mets are no longer trying to win this year — but they're seemingly punting on next year now, too.

Verlander, who had a full no-trade clause, waived it to return to Houston less than a year after signing with the Mets.
