MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Alcohol-related deaths in Wisconsin rose almost 25% in 2020, according to a report released Thursday. Data compiled by the nonpartisan Wisconsin Policy Forum shows 1,077 Wisconsin residents died of alcohol-related causes in 2020, up from 865 in 2019.

Researchers have identified four main reasons young people in high-income countries are drinking less.

Among teens in the three grades, statistically significant decreases were noted on all prevalence rates measured in the study – lifetime, annual, past-month, and binge drinking. More specifically, the survey found the following:

Binge drinking has increased in recent years among older U.S. men but not among older women, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
