Sam Taylor
Sam Taylor, a key figure in North Carolina’s ascension to global life sciences leadership as a founder and long-time president of the sector’s trade association, NCBIO, has died at the age of 64 of pancreatic cancer.
Taylor, who died Sunday, Feb. 21, was instrumental in the founding of the NC Biosciences Organization, now NCBIO, in 1994 and had served as its president since 2006. As president, he advocated for NCBIO and its members before the North Carolina General Assembly, state executive agencies and North Carolina’s delegation to Congress.
He was honored this month by Gov. Roy Cooper for his contributions to the state and its citizens with the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, the state’s highest award for service.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK – Even amidst a pandemic, North Carolina’s biopharma market is booming.
In just the last few months, companies like KBI Biopharma and Thermo Fisher Scientific announced expansion projects, bringing more than a thousand new jobs to the state.
Could one of those be for you? The Bioprocess Development Group (BPD) thinks so.
On Thursday, Jan. 28, the group is hosting a virtual symposium, “BioGrow: Training and Education Across North Carolina,” to get the word out to anyone interested in a career in biopharmaceuticals.
“Attendees will learn about local training opportunities that include short courses and certificate programs, associate’s programs, bachelor’s programs, and graduate programs available in North Carolina,” said the North Carolina Biotechnology Center’s Life Science Economic Development Associate Director Katie Stember, Ph.D., who is helping to organize the event.
