Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today announced that the minimum monthly allowance of valiant freedom fighters will be raised to Tk 20,000, from Tk 12,000.
The Prime Minister made the announcement while inaugurating the transfer of allowances to 168,000 valiant freedom fighters and their families through electronic fund transfer system from the Bangladesh Bank every month, using the management information system (MIS).
The event was held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium. Sheikh Hasina joined the programme from her official residence Gono Bhaban.
"Now, I think, Tk 12,000 is inadequate. There are many slots at the bottom of the freedom fighters' list. We'll increase the amount to Tk 20,000 bringing the lower slots of the list in one place," she said.

The “evidence” will be presented to the nation “in the right time”, AKM Mozammel Haque said while speaking to reporters at the ministry in Dhaka on Sunday.
“We’ve been saying that Mr Ziaur Rahman was involved with Bangabandhu murder. So we call him a killer.
“On behalf of his party, it has been said that he was not involved with the killing. We’ve responded by saying that we will present documentary evidence and information on his involvement to the nation in proper time…wait and see,” he said.

The rally, jointly organised by the party's Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units, began in front of the National Press Club around 10 am on Saturday.
However, the programme was marred by clashes after police charged baton to disperse the protesters towards the end of the meeting. The protesters retaliated by hurling brickbats at law enforcers.
The government announced the decision to revoke the gallantry title conferred on the late military ruler and wartime sector commander Zia, citing his defiance of the constitution, assisting the self-proclaimed killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in fleeing the country and posting them on important state positions, as reasons for the move. ‘Bir Uttam’ is the second-highest award for individual gallantry in Bangladesh after ‘Bir Sreshtha’.

“We’ll send our proposal to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and they will make the final decision,” he added.
