Millions Of Birds Are Migrating Over Colorado Right Now. Here's Why

Kevin J. Beaty/Denverite An Audubons yellow-rumped warbler hunts for bugs above the Denver Audubon Nature Center south of the Chatfield Reservoir. May 12, 2021. And despite any fears of flocks that Alfred Hitchcock may have instilled in you, they mean no harm. “They’re coming into North America to breed,” Zach Hutchinson of Audubon Rockies ...

Letter: Alaska tourism idea

Print article Here’s a suggestion for encouraging tourism to Alaska this summer: Offer vaccines to travelers who provide proof of confirmed travel plans for a (minimum) two-week visit to the state. A confirmed travel plan could include: hotel and vehicle reservations, local tour reservations (gold panning, flightseeing, fishing, four-wheeling, river rafting, backpacking, birding, etc.), motorhome and campsite reservations. Just a thought.

Learning the Art of Slow Birding

Mapping birds feeding habitats Last October, I signed up my family, with great enthusiasm, for the Cornell Lab of Ornithologys yearly citizen science survey, Project FeederWatch. The premise is simple: You watch birds and report what you see. I paid the $18 fee and received a cool poster and some simple directions in the mail. I went out and bought birdseed and a bird feeder, which I set up outside our kitchen window. The only part I remembe...

Birdwatching Program at Buckham Library in Faribault

Birdwatching Program at Buckham Library in Faribault When my Dad was retired he took up a hobby that surprised me a little.  He became a birdwatcher.  Growing up I dont recall him ever talking about birds.  As he grew older he enjoyed them more and more. He had a bird book by his recliner in the TV room which had a nice window where he set up multiple feeders to attract multiple species of birds.  Now that I have grown older I think I know why Dad enjoyed watching birds. He was a very devot...
