Introduction
On October 21, 1967, at the age of 38, Pope Paul VI appointed John Rafael Quinn an auxiliary bishop of San Diego under Bishop Francis J. Furey. The short but handsome Quinn became the youngest bishop in the United States.
It should be noted that Pope Paul VI, himself a homosexual, played a decisive role in the selection and advancement of many homosexual members of the American hierarchy, but Quinn’s appointment, as we shall see, turned out to be among the most egregious and dangerous for the universal Church.

A well-known Lancaster priest died Tuesday after a battle with COVID-19.
The Rev. Stephen Casey, who retired from St. Edwardâs Episcopal Church in 2018, was taken off life support Tuesday morning. According to a letter from Bishop Audrey C. Scanlan, Casey also served at St. Johnâs Episcopal Church in Lancaster and at All Saintsâ Episcopal Church in Hershey.
A post on St. Johnâs Facebook page Tuesday said that Casey would âtransition from this earthly life to the next,â and invited its community in join together in prayer.
In a 2018 interview to LNP | LancasterOnline prior to his final sermon at St. Edwardâs, Casey, who previously lived in England and Scotland, laughed at the irony of his Pennsylvania assignment.
