More hoot-owl fishing restrictions were put in place by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks on Wednesday – this time on some of the state’s most popular trout fisheries which the department are already studying due to declining trout populations and warming waters.

KGVO News spoke to Adam Marsh who explained the purpose of what is called ‘Cattail Corner’.

While most rivers are still managing to stay somewhat cool, water levels have dropped significantly in the Bitterroot, Beaverhead, Jefferson and rivers, causing them to heat more during the day.

Fishing is now prohibited between from 2 p.m. and midnight on a section of the Bitterroot River.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is advising anglers that portions of the Beaverhead River, Bitterroot River and the entire Jefferson River are closed to all fishing daily from 2 p.m.
