Community invited to online Rise Up! free Black history celebration Feb. 25
Local African American singers as well as a speaker and dancer will celebrate Black History Month and hope to educate the public about their heritage during a Facebook Live event called “Rise Up!” on Thursday, Feb. 25.
The event is being held by The Black History Collective of Henderson County, NC and Agape World Outreach.
Agape World Outreach’s Praise Team will sing songs that have impacted Black history since the end of the Civil War, from the song “Oh Freedom!” to the modern gospel song “Total Praise.”
Praise Team members are YaShara Lynch, Compton Tucker, Charne Tucker, Tijuna Green and Linda Smith.
Work underway for new Green Meadows community sign
Hendersonville is moving forward with plans to replace the Green Meadows community sign with a temporary one until a permanent sign can be designed, approved by City Council and built.
City Manager John Connet told the council last week that COVID-19, among other reasons he said he wouldn t make excuses for, have delayed the project, which has been talked about for about a year.
The city s new police department building is being constructed in the Green Meadows area.
Placing the permanent sign will take more time to develop due to utilities at the intersection and easements that will be needed, Connet told the Times-News.
