Cook with Chopped Champ chef Evan Hennessey in Dover, NH

Chef Evan Hennessey’s two children, Emma and Kaden, now in seventh and fourth grades, are growing up learning skills they’ll rely on throughout their lives In addition to honing their math, reading and social studies knowledge at Seacoast Charter School in Dover. Their dad has taught them to cook, which will certainly come in handy in the decades to come. While the rest of their friends eat ramen from a Styrofoam cup (if there even is Styrofoam by then), they can whip up some fresh pasta. And while for some a big camping trip means boxed mac and cheese and trail mix, these kids will be able to whip up something warm and delicious.

Seacoast NH restaurants in hibernation: What is strategy for spring?

When it comes to braving the winter chill, hardy New Englanders are up for the challenge. However, while outdoor dining at Seacoast restaurants had diners happily enjoying delicious drinks and dishes long into fall, there was a point at which it just became a bit too frosty for servers and diners alike.  The majority of Seacoast restaurants remain open this winter as the coronavirus pandemic drags on, whether it’s for indoor dining or takeout only. In early December, though, came a series of announcements from some restaurants they were closing until spring, “hibernating” until outdoor dining can open once again.

NH Nonprofit Helping You Learn Mixology to Help Feed the Hungry

NH Nonprofit Helping You Learn Mixology to Help Feed the Hungry Cue the usual line of no one looks out for their own like New Englanders out of me, but tell me a time when I ve said it that I ve been wrong. It s okay, I ll wait. But in all seriousness, it s especially amazing when one local nonprofit helps another local nonprofit, or in this case, two of them. I first mentioned the Alliance for Greater Good back around the holidays, when the newly-formed Alliance decided to set up shop during Gather s food distribution event in Portsmouth the weekend before Thanksgiving. During that Gather event, the co-founders of the Alliance for the Greater Good presented their own event, Share the Warmth, where they distributed over 1,700 gloves, hats, mittens all things winter for those in need with the cold months sashaying in.

Portsmouth restaurants: Raise a toast to hindsight being 2020

New Year’s Eve will look different in Portsmouth on Thursday with no traditional First Night festivities, but revelers will still be out toasting to a better year ahead. “We’re going to have a fun time saying goodbye to 2020,” said Jane Cole, who picked up the phone on Tuesday morning at Library Restaurant, a steakhouse on State Street. Cole said with capacity limited to fewer than 70 people due to COVID-19 restrictions, they have been turning down individuals calling for reservations for the past two weeks. The challenge of finding a place to celebrate on New Year’s Eve in Portsmouth is heightened this year by the fact that some restaurants are going into hibernation for the winter — including Jumpin’ Jay’s Fish Café, Moxy, The Franklin and Poco’s Bow Street Cantina.
