international airport. surprisingly a busy day for christmas at atlanta international thousands are more trying to get home and those are holding out hope that santa will give them the gift to be home for the holidays. up until this point it has been a nightmare for tens of thousands of holiday travelers of cancellations and delays have played airports nationwide because of the deadly arctic blast we have been dealing with today there have been more than 3600 delays and more than 1600 flight cancellations. not great but little lower than 24 hours ago and conditions are improving across the nation at the transit hub that make no mistake airlines and airports are not out of the woods just yet the brutal temperatures snap close the delta lounge in the international terminal and at the airport shut on friday and officials say it will remain close through 11:00 a.m. on monday when wind and visibility are expected to improve. canceling so many plans for the holidays and we are
chief breaking news correspondent trace gallagher joins us now from los angeles. trace, we covered so many of these shootings. what makes this one unique? you know, it s interesting. if you go back to the video you played there, that a big description of what happened here. police lost a little time there some of the people are reacting to the gun shots right away. a lot of other people that they questioned and talked to that were along the parade route thought they were fireworks. they stood there. they didn t move. that gave people a delay in how they approached this. the gun shots go off and you can see some people are still applauding. if you go down the entire parade line, you ll see video like this that we have seen throughout the day of people that are still sitting there because they think they re hearing fireworks, they think it s part of the show and they waited before they left. it s interesting to me that as you go forward in this investigation, they have the gu

Good morning. Welcome to cnn this morning. Always a pleasure to be with you on a sunday morning. We are started with the historic United Auto Workers strike. Union members say they had reasonably productive talks with ford saturday, but the union and the three Major Companies are still far apart on wages and benefits. Ford and General Motors responded by threatening layoffs for nonstriking workers due to the lack of parts from striking plants. General motors says they will lay off up to 2,000 workers this week if the strike continues. The workers walking the picket lines say they will stick it out until they get a deal that suits them.
