Why Did China Buy An Airstrip In Texas?

Should nations let their enemies purchase land within their own borders? You’d likely give a resounding ‘no’ to this question, correct?  And yet, a former Chinese general with alleged ties to Chinese concentration camps recently bought an airstrip in Texas. And this isn’t just some random ranch in the middle of nowhere. It is 200 square miles (130,000 acres) of land between one of the most active Air Force bases in the U.S. and the border of Mexico. As the world is being fear-mongered about “variants,” this is happening right under American noses.  Who is Sun Guangxin? Sun Guangxin is a former General of the People’s Liberation Army in China. He owns two-thirds of real estate where the Uyghur concentration camps are located in the capital of Xinjiang.

The Blue Hills Wind development in southwest Texas’s Val Verde County has attracted heightened scrutiny in recent months, with lawmakers and experts signaling concern that the Chinese project could be used as a cover for espionage and to disrupt the state’s power grid. The proposed wind farm site is about 30 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border and near the Laughlin Air Force Base, the U.S. Air Force’s largest pilot training facility.

Environmental News For The Week Ending 16 May 2019

Environmental News For The Week Ending 16 May 2019 This is a collection of interesting news articles about the environment and related topics published last week. This is usually a Tuesday evening regular post at GEI (but can be posted at other times). Please share this article - Go to very top of page, right hand side, for social media buttons. Note: Because of the high volume of news regarding the coronavirus outbreak, that news has been published separately: Covid seemed to drop out of the news this week; usually, I ll see virus stories on news sites most read or recent news lists; this week I had to go looking for them. Part of the reason was that the East Coast fuel pipeline shutdown dominated the headlines, but the underlying reason is that new cases in the US and globally are falling rapidly, even in India. And the news organizations are reluctant to cover a story that bleeds less this week than it did last week.
