Tempe voters rejected a bid on Tuesday by the Arizona Coyotes and the city of Tempe to build a new arena complex near Priest Drive and Rio Salado Parkway.

Tempe voters rejected three propositions that would have allowed a Tempe Entertainment District, including a new Arizona Coyotes hockey arena, near Tempe Town Lake.

In Tempe, residents are voting on a proposal for a new entertainment district that would include a new arena for the Arizona Coyotes with retail and residential space, while in Carefree, residents are voting on the direction the town will take for fire and emergency medical services.

As the battle over the proposed Tempe entertainment district is being weighed by voters in a special election, the city of Phoenix, Sky Harbor International Airport, the city of Tempe and the Arizona Coyotes are embroiled in a legal feud over flight noise and residential development.

The quick process gives critics little time to review and question the Arizona Coyotes proposed development in Tempe. That should worry voters.
