Reporter aviation experts are telling us when an aircraft is over land it is tracked by radar. When it is out to sea it is tracked by gps. But when the aircraft being tracked by gps, there are times when only the pilots know exactly where the plane is. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 seems to have just disappeared over the South China Sea. How can that be . All flights beyond 120 miles offshore use gps to determine their location and use that to communicate with the ground. But the gap between communications can be as long as an hour.
