If the region is going to be making such huge financial commitments, its also important that all of the relevant local governments make the appropriate commitments about land uses, close to the caltrain stations. And that will necessarily mean that in many cases the density of Development Close to these caltrain stations. They need to be substantially increased, parking requirements will have to be reduced. But it really would be a squandered opportunity if the region makes significant investments in a system, but then typical suburban landuse patterns continue to persist around many of these stations.
