MONTREAL - A pair of valuable musical instruments have been removed from a Montreal heritage building that caught fire last week, raising hopes that they can be saved to play again.

A Fazioli concert grand piano and a 1772 Kirckman harpsichord were both removed from the concert venue inside the 19th century former monastery.

Montreals fire chief says its unclear why a man in his 80s was overlooked during the evacuation of a burning heritage building Thursday night. While officials initially reported that all occupants had been removed, the man was discovered in an apartment hours later and transported to hospital for to be treated hypothermia.

Firefighters will begin investigating the blazes cause on Monday.

MONTREAL — A fire that swept through a heritage building in downtown Montreal was brought under control Saturday about 42 hours after it first began, the city's fire department said.

The fire broke out late Thursday afternoon at a 19th century former monastery and quickly became a five-alarm blaze, requiring the intervention of 150 firefighters.
