COLUMBIA - Traffic backups near Mill Creek Elementary School have been solved after summer school began Monday.  Just even in one day there s been a huge improvement,  Russell Boulevard Elementary parent Jamie Blake said.  I know that educators are working really hard to try to get people out there very quick. They re very conscious of what s going on and I m really grateful that they re working so hard for us.   Two roundabouts were constructed on Nifong Boulevard at Sinclair Street and Old Mill Creek last year. According to the city of Columbia, the roundabouts were constructed to improve safety, reduce queue lengths and decrease travel times.

Summer school returning Columbia schools after COVID pandemic

After a year where the pandemic eliminated summer school, it is back next week in an extended session. We re excited to be offering K-12 summer school again, said Bonnie Conley, the school district s summer school coordinator. Most summer school programs will be in a child s regular school, but students in eight schools will be attending other schools because of construction or enrollment issues. Parents have received information about which schools their children will be attending if enrolled in summer school. About 9,000 signed up, Conley said. It s good to have half the students in summer school. The number represents about half of the student enrollment during the regular school year, she said.
